Project Overview
There is no clear statement regarding the virtual environment in these laws and unfortunately Ghana has signed onto various treaties, agreements but have not ratified those relating to the protection of children online. Without a clearly defined legislation and policy statement on the safety of a child online, there will be little or no guarantee for child protection; solely because the scope of the Act is limited to the physical space of the child.
The dangers confronting them include online abuse in all its forms; cyber-bullying, child pornography, Cyber-exploitation, cyber-stalking, access to inappropriate content, Sexting, gambling for children and a network for child-sex tourism and trafficking and overuse of the internet.
It is, for this reason that we have designed the Child Online Protection campaign.
To create awareness of basic cybersecurity issues related to children and young people, identify the risks and opportunities associated with the use of the internet and promote hygienic and safe cyber practices among children.
• To recommend new and create awareness of existing tools for ensuring cyber security among children
• Proposing a blueprint for policy regarding online child protection
#NCSAM2019 #CyberSecurity #AwarenessMonth #ChildProtection #COLDSiSGhana
Daily awareness campaigns for the month of October, 2019
It includes sending hateful messages or even death threats to children, spreading lies about them online, making nasty comments on their social networking profiles, or creating a website to bash their looks or reputation
Safety Tip
cyberbullying continues, call or SMS 292. Keep a record of
the emails as proof.
While sexual predators have targeted children in chat rooms, they migrate to wherever young people go online. Predators may take on fake identities and feign interest in a child's favorite bands, TV shows, video games or hobbies.
Safety Tip
Tell your kids not to post a full name, address, phone
number, school name and other personal information that
could help a stranger to find them. Remind them that photos
like your child in a team sweatshirt - can give away clues
to where they live. Ask them not to send photos to people
they meet online.
One of the worst dangers of the Internet, for many parents, is the idea that pornography could pop up and surprise their children. But parents may not realize that some kids are going online to seek out web porn, too.
Safety Tip
Install Internet filtering software (e.g KingRobo) to block
porn sites from any computer your child has access to.
Camera phones, digital cameras and web cams are everywhere these days, and kids can be victims of their own inexperience with new technology. Many post pictures, videos or notes online that they later regret. Think before you post, because once you do, it's going to be up there forever,
Safety Tip
Explain that even if your kids delete their posted photos,
others may have already copied them into public forums and
websites. Tell your kids not to let anyone, even friends,
take pictures or videos of them that could cause
embarrassment online
Betting shops are strategically located in densely populated areas of the city where large and mainly unemployed sports-loving fans can be found. An addiction to online gambling can have serious consequences, including job loss, plummeting grades, ruined credit and damaged relationships.
Safety Tip
Explain the risks of gambling activities to your teen. Set
clear rules and consequences for your kid’s behaviour and
stick to them.
There are more threats on the internet against your children, we are always here to inform you. Feel free to get in touch
